Spending at day on the Mornington Peninsula doesn’t have to include its most famous draw card.
Just over an hour from Melbourne sits the Morning Peninsula, a picturesque coastal region most famous for its elegant pinot noirs and fresh chardonnays. But if you aren’t into sipping your way through the wineries that dot the area, there are still plenty of reasons to visit.
-
Peninsula Hot Springs
One of the most popular attractions on the Mornington Peninsula for both travellers and Melbourne locals is the Peninsula Hot Springs. On offer are a range of pools and spa treatments making use of the mineral thermal waters in two facilities, the Bath House and Spa Dreaming Centre.
The Bath House draws on global bathing traditions to offer 50 different experiences including a reflexology walk, Turkish steam room and the Hill Top Pool with 360 degree views of the surrounding area. The Spa Dreaming Centre is a relaxing sanctuary where you can enjoy a range of rejuvenating spa treatments.

Beaches
Mornington Peninsula offers beach goers the best of both worlds – calm waters of the Port Phillip Bay and rugged ocean coastline on the southern side. Families can relax on the golden sands of bay beaches such as Rosebud, Rye and Mount Martha, where the water softly laps on the sand. On the ocean side, surfers ride waves offshore in the wild waters of the Bass Straight and walkers can enjoy views of the craggy coastline.
Even if you aren’t up for a swim, Mornington Peninsula you can still enjoy a stop at Dromana for a chance to admire the iconic bathing boxes. These colourful structures, essentially a small shed for shelter during a day at the beach, permanently line the shore and make for beautiful vibrant photos.

Food Experiences
While you may be leaving the wineries off your itinerary, there is a myriad of alternative activities for your tastebuds to enjoy. Top of the list is Sunnyridge Strawberry Farm, where you can pick your own strawberries when they are in season. Even when there is no fruit on the bushes, you can indulge in the delicious berry-based desserts, ice-creams and products available at the store.
The fertile farming land that makes the area perfect for grape growing is also utilised by dairy farmers to produced artisanal cheese and dairy products. We recommend a visit to Main Ridge Dairy to try their delicious goats cheese made on site. Meanwhile if you have a sweet tooth, you can’t go past Mornington Peninsula Chocolates for their premium European style chocolates, ice-cream and desserts. Sample your way through the different chocolates, made using sustainably sourced cocoa, and observe as the talented chocolatiers create delicious handmade truffles and chocolates.

Arthurs Seat
For spectacular views of the area all the way to Melbourne, head to the highest point on the Mornington Peninsula, Arthurs Seat. Here you can soak up the scenery, wander the ornamental gardens or get lost in the Enchanted Maze Garden. For a unique perspective of the surrounding land and water, hop in the Arthurs Seat Eagle, and enclosed gondola that soars over the trees for stunning views all around.
