Uluru is one of the top sights to see in Australia, especially during sunrise and sunset.

Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park is a remarkable region located in the middle of Australia. Within the national park, there are different lookouts where you can see Uluru from various angles along with the huge red domes of Kata Tjuta.

When in Uluru, it’s essential to do this tour that includes visiting the sacred sites and watching the marvellous sunset.

  1. Talinguru Nyakunytjaku

Talinguru Nyakunytjaku is considered one of the best sunrise viewing platforms over Uluru. After sunset, there are two short walks near the lookout where you can learn about the Anangu culture, the traditional owners of the land.

  1. Kata Tjuta Dune Viewing Area

A short walk will take you to the Kata Tjuta dune viewing area, where you can see the view of the Kata Tjuta domes and the grassy hills around it. You can visit here for sunrise, sunset, and even during the day to experience the breathtaking view. In the distance, you can spot Uluru! Sunrise can be busy at this viewing point, but sunset is often quieter.

  1. Naninga Lookout

For a remarkable view of both Uluru and Kata Tjuta, Naninga Lookout is perfect and located near the Ayers Rock Campground. This lookout point can be tricky to find as it’s behind the campground, but it’s worth the search!

  1. Uluru Sunset Viewing Area

The Uluru sunset viewing area is unique as you watch the sun disappear behind Uluru. You’ll see the dramatic colours changing during the sunset before it transitions to complete darkness, allowing you to see the stars.

To reach this lookout point you will need your own car. Around the school holidays can get very busy so plan and arrive early. The rest of the year is quieter, particularly during sunrise.

  1. Imalung Lookout

The Imalung Lookout provides views across the national park that stretch out to Uluru, with Kata Tjuta visible in the distance. Enjoy a picnic here or experience the breathtaking panoramic view during sunrise and sunset. If you’re here at sunset, spend some time stargazing and spotting the Milky Way.

To secure the best spot at these lookouts for sunrise or sunset, we recommend arriving a bit earlier. Consider taking a sunrise tour or a sunset tour to fully appreciate how remarkable Uluru is during these times of the day.
