OVERVIEW OF THE TOUR
Enjoy a fun trip back in time aboard the original steam train, Puffing Billy, as it puffs its way through the stunning scenery of the Dandenong Ranges.
The Dandenong Ranges, located approximately 35kms east of Melbourne are heavily populated with towering Mountain Ash Trees and lush tree ferns. The Dandenong Ranges rise to an approximate height of 630 meters, and consist of a variety of cascading waterfalls, rolling hills and steep valleys.
Your first stop of the tour will be on the tranquil Sherbrooke Forest, where you will have time to stroll through the Grants Picnic Reserve. Here you can keep an eye out for colourful birds and other wildlife as you walk the hiking trails. There is so much to see all around you when walking through the lush forest.
Belgrave is the home of the historic Puffing Billy steam train. Running through the Dandenong Ranges, The Puffing Billy Steam Train is over a century old and one of the most prestigious steam railways in the world. The Train consists of open-sided carriages, which are ideal for appreciating the stunning views surrounding you as you make your way through the forest. You will also get to hear the old train whistle while enjoying the hour-long train ride.
Once our train journey concludes, you will get to encounter a wide range of Australian wildlife at the Healesville Sanctuary. Some of the cute critters you will see include Koalas, Tasmanian Devils and much more. As you make your way around the sanctuary, you can learn from the enthusiastic animal caregivers and see spectacular animal presentations.
A day spent in the Dandenong Ranges taking in the stunning wildlife from the view of the Puffing Billy steam train and interacting animals at the Healesville Sanctuary is surely a perfect day in our book!
