OVERVIEW OF THE TOUR
Venture down Australia’s stunning coastline along the Great Ocean Road. Avoid peak hour traffic and heavy crowds by joining our reverse itinerary. We head off early to arrive at the 12 Apostles before any other tour, so you’ll have a crowd-free view and less competition for beautiful photos.
Departing from Melbourne in the early hours, we’ll cut inland to head for the Shipwreck Coast. Stopping first at Colac, grab yourself a coffee in this sleepy country town, ready for your first adventure.
Lap up the crisp sea air and feel yourself energised by the crashing waves below as you stand above the 12 Apostles. Formed over twenty million years ago, the impressive sandstone formations are the most recognisable site along the Great Ocean Road. We know you’re not in a rush, and neither are we, so you’ll get plenty of time to enjoy the view and get that Instagram perfect photo.
Next, we’ll move to London Bridge. Years of waves eroding at the lower layers of the limestone formation caused a bridge to form between the mainland and the offshore stack. However, in 1990 the bridge collapsed, leaving the large limestone island we can see today.
Just a short walk from here we’ll find Loch Ard Gorge. Head down the beach steps towards the contained beach, and marvel at the huge limestone cliffs surrounding you. Feel the waves lapping at your ankles as you wander along the shoreline.
Heading back up the stairs, we’ll take a stroll to the Razorback, an impressive elongated stack just off the coastline. White foam laps at the stacks foot as the turquoise water crashes against it, meanwhile, green shrubs defy logic, flourishing on the limestone island.
With your lungs full of fresh coastal air, it’s time to head to Port Campbell for lunch. Explore the beachside town and enjoy its boutique cafes or grab something to take away and eat while you walk barefoot along its self-contained beach.
Weaving along the coastline we’ll stop at Kennett River to try and spot some koalas in their natural habitat. Keep an eye out for movement in the trees and sleeping grey balls of fur. Moving on we’ll stop once more to try and spot some kangaroo too!
Our final stop for the day is the coastal town of Lorne. Enjoy the beachfront views one last time and treat yourself to an ice cream before we board the bus and head back to Melbourne.
