There are plenty of attractions, sights, views, and things to do around the Grampians National Park.

So, you’ve only got one day to spend in the Grampians National Park. What do you go and see first? From morning through until evening – here’s what we’d recommend doing in one day in the Grampians. If you’re craving a one-day trip from Melbourne, then the Grampians offers a nature-filled day with gorgeous views and fun hiking trails.

Morning stop 1: Baroka Lookout

Kick off your adventure into the Grampians with a stop at the Baroka Lookout. This iconic lookout point is a scenic gateway into your adventure, offering beautiful views across the whole sandstone canyon. It’s the perfect introduction to your single day in the Grampians! This lookout is just a little drive outside of Halls Gap so it’s an easy stop-off on your way to your first location. Say hello to the day and soak up the views.

It’s just a 5-minute walk away from the car park to the viewing platforms, so there’s no need for rocky climbs or tough hikes.

Morning stop 2: Mackenzie Falls

For your first stop in the Grampians, you should check out the biggest waterfall in Victoria! Choose between a flat, easy trail that leads to the Bluff Lookout viewing platform. Or, take the adventurous route, and climb down the steep steps to the base of the waterfall. The narrow descent of 260 steps might feel tricky in parts, but it offers a rewarding vista of pretty water cascades at the bottom.

Lunch: Halls Gap

For a bite to eat, check out the local restaurants in Halls Gap. There are plenty of small cafes to choose from – or there are plenty of green spaces places to pitch up your picnic. For hot chips and yummy burgers, check out Flame Brothers for a smokehouse feed. Or sink your teeth into a cool and quirky venue offering tasty street food at the Wild Misty Mountain. If you fancy a cold afternoon beer paired with some tasty gourmet food, check out the Paper Scissors Rock Brewery. For a relaxed lunch with a tasty grill menu, check out the Kookaburra Hotel.

Afternoon: See the wildlife at Halls Gap Zoo

Halls Gap Zoo offers hands-on experiences for everyone to get involved so that you can see the animals up close. Say hello to rhinos, giraffes, meerkats, snakes and crocodiles. With over 120 native and exotic animals, your trip to the zoo will be a memorable one!

Take a Photo of the Jaws of Death

The Grampians is home to many interesting rock formations – but this one is the most memorable. From just one look at these unique rocks, you’ll be able to see how they got their name. Made even more famous by their inspiration for the anime movie Princess Mononoke, this spectacular view provides the perfect photo opportunity for your Instagram feed. Hike the serene bushwalk around the rocky views, and capture memories to keep for a lifetime.
