Christmas in Adelaide!

The city’s annual Christmas Pageant has come and gone which means that the Christmas celebrations are officially underway in Adelaide.

Adelaide loves the festive season; decorations line the streets and stores are decked out with holly and glittering lights. To keep the spirit alive and the city buzzing with excitement, Adelaide has a calendar chock-full of fantastic festive events for the whole family!

• Lighting of the Christmas Tree (Nov 16)

  Head to Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga and see the Christmas tree lit for the first night of the year. A fantastical evening of free Christmas entertainment is guaranteed for all. Roaming Christmas characters and carollers with get you in the festive mood, before the City of Adelaide officially flicks the switch, lighting the tree for the 2019 Christmas season at 8:30pm.

• Seasonal Low Waste Workshop (Nov 26)

  Join Niki Wallace, Almost Zero founder, for a workshop in eco-friendly festivities. Learn how to wrap a present using scarfs and fabric, create your own ‘little growers’ kit to encourage the budding green thumbs in your life, and receive other low waste festive season tips and tricks.

• Twilight Christmas Markets at Eighty Eight O’Connell (Dec 7 and Dec 15)

  Join over sixty stall holders as the Twilight Christmas Market rolls into Adelaide. Pick up locally crafted Christmas gifts and decorations, indulge in delicious small batch desserts, or enjoy a festive feast from street food vendors. Kids will love an evening out, with plenty of kids entertainment and live music for the family to enjoy.

• Lord Mayor’s Christmas Gala Concert (Dec 8)

  Join Mr South Australia, Keith Conlon, as he hosts a night full of musical festivities. Sing your heart out to all your favourite classic Christmas carols and new Christmas bangers. Join world-renowned jazz musician Julian Ferraretto and ex-Australian Ballet dancer Tim Rodgers for an afternoon of unparalleled Christmas joy. Keep an eye out for Father Christmas and his elves, you never know when they might appear and what they might bring!

• Classics Unwrapped 4: ‘Tis the Season (Dec 11)

  Join the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra as they bring the classic sounds of Christmas to life in front of you. Enjoy a journey through the festive music you know and love as the biggest band in Adelaide plays them live for you. A wonderful introduction to live classical music for the whole family, ‘Tis the Season will delight even the grinchiest of people!

• Christmas Lights, Festive Nights (Dec 13 – Dec 22)

  Head into the city for ten nights of Christmas activities and entertainment. Visit Rudolf as he pulls Santa’s sleigh, careful though, for they’re made of over 130,000 LEGO® bricks! Wander around to see other marvellous LEGO® creations built by local brick artists. After taking some awesome photos, enjoy giant lawn games and sit down in the warm evening sun enjoying the musical talents of local performers. On Friday nights, enjoy a Christmas movie under the stars. Watch the Grinch try to steal Christmas while you dig into some dinner from the food trucks. See the Christmas tree lights up each night, shining Christmas colours over the park.
