4 Towns in the Hunter Valley You Should Visit
The Hunter Valley consists of rolling green hills that offer some gorgeous countryside views, with scenery that is packed with vineyards stacked neatly in their parallel rows. Nestled in the endless grapevines are a few little country towns that each offer their splash of Hunter Valley charm. The Hunter Valley is a delightful place to take a trip to! Here are our favourite 5 towns in the Hunter Valley that we recommend visiting, whether you’re staying overnight or taking a day trip.
1. Pokolbin
Pokolbin is known as the wine capital of the Hunter Valley. If you do a wine tour in the Hunter Valley, you’ll more than likely pass through Pokolbin. That’s because it has the highest concentration of wineries and accommodation options in the area, and it is the most accessible to get to all the other wineries in the area. If you’re after a wine tour, you’ll most likely stop in Pokolbin. There are golf courses and gardens, and plenty of accommodation options.
2. Wollombi Valley
Wollombi Valley… 30 minutes south-west of Pokolbin is where you’ll find Wollombi Valley. It’s a cute little village nestled in the countryside that ticks off all the essential criteria of a cute countryside town. With pretty architecture from a bygone era, and surrounded by pretty countryside all around it, you won’t be short on views in Wollombi. Wollombi is a lot quieter than Pokolbin. 3. Cessnock
Cessnock is a small town linked with mining, with a range of historical buildings and grand old-style pubs. There is also a wide range of classic wineries in the area, such as Audrey Wilkinson. It is easy to get here from Sydney or Newcastle, and the journey can take around 2 hours. It’s a good stop off for any supplies you might need during your day trip to Sydney.
4. Mount View
Heading further south of Pokolbin, you’ll get to the secluded little town of Mount View. Home to a range of boutique cellar doors, it is located between Wollombi and Cessnock, and it offers some of the prettiest views of the Hunter Valley…If you manage to get up for a sunrise, then you can catch some really pretty golden rays over the sprawling hills of Mount View. There are a few different lookout points here too, so if you’re travelling through Mount View, then make sure you stop off for a look out over the pretty scenery!
